U.S. Oil – Melissa Terminal
A milestone project for U.S. Oil
The Challenge
Hurckman, a Wisconsin-based company, navigated many challenges during the U.S. Oil project in Melissa, Texas, including the absence of a complete set of plans initially, with design and drawings evolving throughout. The absence of an on-site engineer for guidance, coupled with delays caused by supply chain constraints, added complexity to fabrication and installation timelines. Overcoming these obstacles demanded adaptability and effective problem-solving throughout the project’s development.
The Solution
Adapting to the limited plans, our team at HMI worked diligently on available information, addressing each aspect as it was received. We underwent a selection process to assemble a skilled and cooperative work crew in collaboration with our foreman. Despite efforts, streamlining the question-and-answer process remained a challenge. Leveraging the on-site engineer’s presence, we aimed to resolve as many queries as possible. U.S. Oil’s initiative to procure missing materials locally to meet deadlines was attempted for cost savings but faced unforeseen challenges, a common occurrence when owners take charge of procurement.
The Results
Ultimately, our team delivered an operational fuel terminal that seamlessly transitioned into production upon completion. Rigorous testing of all lines revealed no weld failures, ensuring the terminal’s reliability. Overall, U.S. Oil expressed satisfaction with the aesthetically pleasing and highly functional product. This project served as a valuable learning experience for both U.S. Oil and HMI, paving the way for improved efficiency and success in potential future endeavors.
